Credit Repair: Rebuilding Credit in Saskatoon

For most people, credit repair seems quite impossible, but with patience and determination you can succeed. Bad marks will remain on your credit report for a period of time, and that is the fact you cannot change - but, there are things you can do in the meantime to speed up the process of rebuilding your credit history. Here we list some of them:

  • Acquire a copy of your credit report.

You cannot even begin rebuilding your credit until you are aware of the root of the problem. Analyze the report and if you believe there are any mistakes, contact the credit bureau immediately.

  • Pay off your bills.

If you only have a small amount owing on an old credit card, save some money, and pay off the debt. Paying debts is the most rapid way to credit repair. If you find yourself unable to pay your debts, you may need to consider a debt management plan, a proposal to your creditors, or even bankruptcy.

  • Once debts have been paid off you can begin repairing your credit.

The first step is to borrow fully secured money (the debts you acquire that are backed by an asset or guarantee). If you are unable to pay, the "security" is simply sold by the person you owe.

  • Consider having someone co-sign your debt.

If you are unable to pay your debt, the responsibility is that of the co-signor not you. However, by paying it you are working on rebuilding your credit history.

  • Obtain a secured credit card.

You can do this by putting an amount of money in a deposit with the bank, and identifying that money as security for the card. The bank will simply take money from the deposit if you are unable to pay, and your available credit will be reduced accordingly. If you pay though, you will be a step closer to a successful credit repair.

  • Borrow money for an RRSP.

Banks regard those with RRSPs differently since they show that you are responsible and thinking about your future. Use any tax refunds you receive to repay the loan. Your credit rating will improve substantially since you will be paying off your loan faster than necessary.

  • Get a small line of credit even if you do not need it.

By repeatedly paying off your line of credit each month, you will quickly rebuild your credit report.

The rule of thumb for those working on credit repair: You want the credit system to see you as a good money manager, and the best way to accomplish this is by paying all of your bills on time, not letting any cheques bounce, and not overdrawing your account at the bank. Rebuilding your credit rating is possible and it is up to you!
